When does SEVIS status become active ?

Hi Guys,

I am in the process of transferring to a school for the fall. My SEVIS has already been transferred and an I-20 has been issued. However, my DSO at the transfer in school said my SEVIS is currently in "transfer pending" status and will not be in "active" status until the end of the add drop date for classes. I want to renew my driver's license as soon as possible, but I don't think the DMV in Texas will renew it unless my SEVIS is in "active" status. Is there a solution to this issue?

Have you talked with DMV in this regard?

As soon as u get ur new I-20 u should be good for ur renewal of license

Issuing the transfer pending I-20, doesn't mean that complete transfer. you have to register for courses, then your sevis will come into active , this takes minimum of three weeks.

By the way just to let you know guys, that I have got my temporary driver's license today with inactive SEVIS. I went to Glendale, California DMV office. Hope you guys can also renew yours once you receive your I-20 irrespective of whether it's active or inactive. Good Luck !
