  • F1 Visa re-entry or Reinstatement

    Hello everyone,
I am on an F1 visa. I have been here only since 2 months. My i20 from University A was terminated because i could not complete some homework on time & missed just 2 lectures out of 8, that is the reason they gave me. Before the termination was issued, I had requested them for a transfer to University B. ( I have no doubt they terminated it because i asked for a transfer) Now they have terminated it & then transferred it to university B. What are the chances of getting reinstated if I apply for one? Or should I reenter via mexico with the new i20 of university B? What are the chances that i will get to re enter. Its very urgent. Which one is least risky? Is there anyone here with similar experience. Anyone know what questions will be asked at the port of entry since I will have a visa with university A's name on it and a different i20!

Your first mistake was asking for a transfer so soon. It is looked upon by the school and by USCIS. You need to check with University B to see what the status of your SEVIS is. If the record was transferred, you may still be in status. If you are not, it may not be as simple as leaving and re-entering. If your SEVIS was not transferred before the termination, you may need to get a new visa stamp. You need to figure this out immediately as you are supposed to leave within 15 days of your SEVIS termination. You may want to consult with an attorney.

You have a new i20 right ,so you have two options now.
            1. You can reenter with new i20 and need to pay sevis .
2.apply for reinstatement by staying in USA .
First option is less risky and easy.there will be no problem at port of entry if you have different university on visa and i20.

So you mean one must go thru visa interview again... Acc to the rules, if we are out of usa for not more than 5 months and if the f1 visa is not expire... We can enter the usa with new i20 by paying the sevis again.. Isn't this procedure right. Want to know coz I'm in same condition

If you are out of USA or not attending the classes within 5 months .you likely need to get new visa to enter USA .

Check with sevis first if it terminated or transfered .. If it is transferred before termination u r sevis will be active ..
If not u need to reinstate ( could take 3-6 months ) or border crossing
