H4 to F1 OPT/CPT Eligibility

Hello,
I hope you are doing good
I am Nidhi shah and studying in Masters of information Assurance in USA.I enrolled in Fall 2014 block 1 on H4 visa.University has issued me I-20 from Spring 2015 (January) onward.

I have couple of queries related to my CPT and OPT.

1) When I will be eligible for CPT and OPT.

2) What are the requirements to get OPT , considering I completed my first semester on H4 visa.

3) I have submitted my change of status application to USCIS on 30th Oct 2014.



I will appreciate if someone answer my questions.

1. It depends on the school. Some schools allow CPT from first semester onwards. If you want pre-completion OPT, you are required to have been in school for at least 9 months, or 2 semesters. Some schools don’t count time in H-4, some schools do.
2. You need to have been in school for at least 2 semesters or 9 months. Some schools won’t consider time spent in non-F-1 status.
