  • F-2 to F-1 visa stamping in India

    Hello,

I'm in valid F-2 visa status. I wish to do Masters in U.S. but this is not possible being in F-2 status. So, I'm left with two options change of status from f-2 to f-1 in U.S. which takes about 3-4 months or F-1 stamping in India which will be immediate.
I'm planning for F-1 stamping in India, so that I can register for Spring 2015. I have questions regarding
    1. Does my current status(F-2) affect F-1 stamping?
    2. If F-1 stamping is not done, does my existing F-2 visa gets terminated? Can I enter U.S. again with existing f-2 visa?
    3. As I'm in F-2, do I need to carry additional documents (spouse's F-1 documents) unlike regular F-1 applicants?

I would appreciate if anyone can guide me in this situation. Thanks in advance....

      1. No.
      2. No. You can re-enter with F-2 as long as you have a valid I-20 for F-2 authorization.
      3. You might need to carry F-1 documents and proof your spouse’s ongoing enrollment to show that you were maintaining your F-2 status when you were in the U.S.

I guess i spoke to u on personal chat..
1 if there is no violation in f2 status then it wont effect ..
                        2 generally u r f2 visa does not terminate if u apply for f1 ..
3 does not have to but at least keep i20 .. So that they can pull u r spouse details .. And remember all u r ans should not say that u gonna stay here permanently .
