  • Traveling on the last day of OPT

I am currently employed in the US and I am planning to travel to India on the 25th of December and return back on the 12th of January. I am currently on my 12 month OPT which expires on the 12th of January? Hypothetically if my STEM extension card isn't approved (which I am yet to apply) by then would it be an issue while traveling back to the US? Would it be any better if I return a couple of days earlier? What is the average time for the STEM extension to be processed. Please help! Thanks

It depends on luck.. All the best.. There might not be any problem.

It's might not safe to return US with pending OPT extension and expiring OPT ! but check with your DSO.

Please check with DSO.As your OPT going to expire on your return date, its not safe. OPT extension takes atleast 90 days and your days of india trip counts towards unemployment.

Not advisable to travel with pending OPT application. Can you wait and travel once you have the EAD card with you. Also, do you have a valid visa?
