I am joining my MS course on Spring 2014. Now I am on h4 visa. I just need some suggestions about when should I apply for F1 visa,so that I willl be eligible for CPT .Is it ok if I will do my first semester on h4. Also Can I work off campus while I am on CPT. Thanks a lot

I would start the process of getting the F1 now, as there is really no reason to stay on H4 when you are starting your new course. Check this out for the link http://www.uscis.gov/i-539 for changing immigration status. According to the University of California’s International Students department CPT is for employment off-campus or an internship but it must be directly related to your major.
