  • SSN delay from long time

    Hi Friends,

I have an H1 Visa since October 2015 and have arrived in the country in early December. I immediately applied for a new SSN on Dec19th and was told that I should have it by the 30th Dec. The receipt said that it usually takes up to 4 weeks.

These 4 weeks have now been elapsed and meanwhile the SSA office where I applied has been telling me that my application has not yet cleared with Homeland Security. As a matter of fact, yesterday they told me that they have sent 3 reminders to Homeland Security and received no answer thus far, which, according to them, is a sign that the application is not getting cleared.

Therefore, they (the local SSA office) told me that they will reject my application this Friday, having elapsed 30 days since I applied and no extension can be given.

Even they are not sure whether i will get SSN sooner or not(if i reapply).I think even i reapply it takes same time. Can i call homeland security office? Does anyone have (or knows of) a similar experience and suggestions on how I go about from here?

The local SSA office has told me that I can reapply, but is there any timing limitation or maximum number of times one could do so? Do Homeland Security allow for an interview to clear things?

Is there anything I could do to by Friday avoid having my SSN application rejected by the local SSA office?

    Regards,

Hi , I hope you are doing good. Can you please let know have you got your SSN or not ? I am in the same situation I arrived in March 2016 and immediatley applied for SSN. My I-94 is also correct and my information is matching with my passport and visa however When I call SSA they always say it has been under verification process with DHS.

There is one online application where you can check against your passport number if any case is pending with DHS ( SAVE Database) usually this is where SSA or any other agency will send a request to make inquiry for myself A case is there and it says it has been returned to the SSN agency. However when I called SSA office again same reply, by now it has been like 9 weeks and I have still not received it.

I am not sure if someone can help you or me but just make sure that your I-94 form is correct , now how do you do that ? There is a online application where you just enter your passport details and it will pull up your I-94 , make sure your first name , last name , passport no and Date of birth are exactly same as on your passport/visa. And if that looks OK then you have no other option then being patient and just wait.

    Thanks
