Day 1 CPT: How does it work?

How Day 1 CPT works? I am thinking of starting Day 1 CPT right after my OPT with the same employer, without any gap so I dont have to quit the job. Can anyone share his/her experience on the similar situation? Can I keep the benefits from the employer? Also, how to convince the employer to accept CPT authorization after the EAD card end date?
Does anybody have experience with Harrisburg University on such CPT authorization?
