Employees wont have any problem in u working on cpt if u get a opt soon after ur cpt amd continue working with them. Just make sure u dont use your cpt for 1 full year else u wont be eligible for a opt if u use ur cpt fully.

  • Do employers have a problem with students working on a FT job on CPT?

    Hello Everyone,

I am from a NON-STEM major (big taboo among desis..just kidding) and I have used 5 months 4 weeks of my CPT. My courses are over and I just have my project left to get master's degree. I am looking for a FT job from Jan 2014 and intend to use my 6 months CPT, before going on a non-extendable 12 month OPT. This is just so that if my visa doesn't get approved in 2014, I want to have the chance of applying again in April 2015. Note: The school obviously isn't going to allow me to start my CPT from the month of Oct-Nov as that would be in between the semesters.

So, my question is: Do employers have a problem with students taking up a FT job and using CPT towards it? Because if they do, then I would need to apply for OPT to start from Jan and also research about universities offering CPT from day 1. I like to be prepared well in advance.

    Thanks
Working...
