Exclamation Stem opt extension - case was received - nov 15 2017

    Hi,

    1.USCIS - Received my packet on NOV 15 2017
2.My OPT is expiring today FEB 08 2018.
3.I applied 7 days late when it comes to 90 days prior I.e 90 days processing from NOV 15 2017 is till FEB 15 2017 .
4.It's been 83 days now and I am concerned the status is still as "Case Was Recieved".
5.Does applying 7 days late I.e 83 days instead of 90 days prior will cause any problems ?

Please advice if I can call theem after 90 days? but some said that calling USCIS will delay the process?? I am thinking to wait until FEB 15TH 2018.

Once you applied for extension, before any decision you have 180 days to work. Nothing will stop you from working even after your current opt end date. Delay in uscis processing is usual, because of holiday time.

Your 180 days just started man, after 8th Feb.. So Keep rocking... I am in the same boat.. received on Dec

    1. You can apply for the STEM OPT even one day before your OPT expires. 90 days is the “earliest” you can file. You did not file “late.”
    2. You have the authorization to continue working for 180 days after your OPT expires as long as the STEM extension is pending.
    3. USCIS will accept a Service Request once the EAD is pending for more than 75 days, so submit one if you want.

Can you elaborate on the first point (i am in a similar position and extremely worried)- is it the time your OPT application packet physically reaches USCIS (I think I will be fine here) or Is it the time USCIS actually opens your application for processing and then sends you the notice of receipt? Thank you in advance Lisa!
