    Will there be any problem if no payroll is being generated while on STEM-OPT?

    Hi, one of my friend is in a situation, he is with a consulting firm, he is on STEM-OPT period, he recently got off a project, so now, his firm is not generating payroll cause he is not on any project yet, so he is concerned whether, will there be any consequences will he be facing going forward if his payroll is not generated? What are the scenarios where he would be get in trouble going further, like will it be at immigration or will it affect his H1 processing? Any explanation and advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    I believe as long as he is not running out of status he should be fine. If the unemployment days are more than 150 days then he will be in problem.

    No there will be no issue as it is not mandatory of prevailing wages for STEM-OPT or OPT you can voluntarily work for any organisation but make sure you are not in a dual payroll. In H1B it's mandatory because your employer submits LCA with prevailing wages
