hi, i am a student of physics. Now i apply for opt and planning to do IT training for 4 months and will do job after training. I heard that , my opt won't get extended because my study and job are not similar. Study in physics but job in IT networking. Is it true?

Opt extension would be a problem and you will also have issues during h1b if you are not working in your area of study.

                Hello,
Good luck to everyone out there waiting on responses.
Here is my timeline, please advice on what my next steps should be

-graduated with BA in psychology in May 2015, got OPT
-hired July 2015 by employer in the field of psychology
-applied for H1b visa, which was denied in the lottery
-applied for STEM extension on advice of DSO, which got denied on August 15th
-currently I have admission at a university to which I can transfer my SEVIS record (post baccalaureate program, NOT a degree conferring graduate program)
-intention to apply to med school in one year

My question is: After STEM extension denial is received, can I still work for my employer till the 180 days extension is up? (The one they give you when you apply for a STEM extension)
-If I transfer my SEVIS record, can I work anywhere at all?
-after one year, can I apply for OPT again even though I am attending a post-bacc program and not a graduate program?

I am terrified and not sure of my next steps but grateful that I can transfer F1. Please advice/ share any helpful experiences. Thank you so much.

You cn work for 180 days, only when the decision is pending. Not after denial

                          About Option 1,

If we get a new I-20 before VISA or a STEM OPT expires, can we remain in the US if the semester starts within 5 months of OPT expiration?
Does that mean it gives 60 days after OPT expiration + 5 months before our semester starts?

                          Please clarify my understanding.

                          Thank you.

Something similar happened to me. How did you solve it?
