Day1 CPT from an accredited visa University in East Coast/North England Region

    Hi All,

I have a bachelor's degree and currently on my OPT, working as a consultant in New England/East Coast area. My OPT will be expiring in December 2013 hence I need to join a Master's program to keep my status in line till Oct of 2014. I am planning to file my H1 coming April 2014(hopefully).

Long story short. I need suggestion/advice and a list of Universities which are so called Visa school in East Coast region (New Jersey and New York, Connecticut or Boston Area)

I need an I20 with a CPT stamp from day 1. I can't stop working. Given that I am on the project and I get the CPT from an university, can I file my H1 in April 1 2014? Do I not need to be in OPT?

Greatly appreciate your input on this!

Why did you recommend that? Do you recommend that in general for everyone?

Your employer can file H1 irrespective if you are on CPT or OPT or not working. Your employer will file for H1 with COS from F1.

I in a similar situation. My research so far is that If you are on OPT and applying for a new Univ for admissions, you will need to get your SEVIS record released to the new univ. ince OPT is not transferable, your OPT will be expired the date SEVIS gets released to the univ. Therefore you will not be able to work from then till you get your CPT approved from the new univ. This is about a 3 weeks time.

This information is 100% verified as I talked to the DSO of my Univ, which is one of the best univs in the US. Now the thing is that, you can get your SEVIS release date to be specified 60 days after your OPT expires, but most of the Univ that offer day 1 CPT require that SEVIS is released before the classes begin. So I am in this hole where I will be unemployed for 3 weeks and thats not acceptable.

I don't know what the work around is, but I can think of two ways both of which are risky.

    1) You can quit the current job right now and get admitted in the Univ. Once you have the CPT start marketing and hope to get employed soon so that you can pay for that Quarterly sems from then onwards. Then apply for CPT.

If it is a problem for you to get Offer Letters from the client, then it is trouble because CPT approval process is sometimes too rigourous at least in Goldey Beacon College, Delaware. They req, offer letter from client, letter from manager and letter from the HR.

If you have or find another solution please do share, because I can understand the problems you must be going through and I feel the same as you
