I-539 change of status.

Hello,

I have filed an I-539 change of status (B1 to F2) and the status shows as "case received".
I am aware that an individual can remain in the country if the application is in "pending status", I would like to know what happens if the application is still in "case received" status? Can the person stay in the US after the date listed on I-94?
