Travel before OPT/Visa expires, CPT starts

I'm currently on my STEM OPT which is expiring in mid-September, 2018 and my F1 visa is expiring in December 2018. I'm employed and my employer is filing for my H1b visa this year. I'm planning to get enrolled in a day 1 CPT college if my H1b isn't picked up. I have a few questions and would appreciate if someone could share any details or personal experiences similar to my case:

    - How risky is to travel during June/July timeframe if my visa isn't picked up? I'll have 2 months of OPT left at that time and around 5-6 months of F1 visa.
    - If I travel later after enrolling in the CPT, I believe I'd need to get a new F1 visa stamped. What are the chances of getting the visa approved and stamped for this?

    Thanks in advance!
