    I20 expiration

    Hello,

I have a plan to travel to India in April 2019 in an emergency. I have my I20(CPT second Masters) which is expiring in March 2019. But I have a valid F1 visa till June 2019, I am planning to come back in April itself which is a very short trip. I will also receive an I20 from the same university for next 2 years. But that will be a different course. How safe it is to travel to India in this case? Do I need a visa stamp while returning back to US since my I20 is expired? or is it ok as I have a valid visa till June 2019?

Please let me know your opinions.

    Thank you!!

It is recommended not to travel at least within 6 months of your visa expiration. For some reason if you are stopped at POE, you will be questioned about your second Masters and your new course work(I assume it as 3rd Masters or PhD) for the next two years. They might also question you about your short trip too. Finally, travelling with an expired I20 will not allow you in the US, make sure you carry your new I20 with you during the travel.
