    H1b to F1 and back to H1b

    Hi,

I have my H1b picked and approved this year. My PERM is being processed and I140 would tentatively be approved by mid-2019.

I plan to continue towards a Ph.D. as my advisor is willing to have me part of his research group. For this, I would need to go back to F1.

What are the complications in going back to F1? Can I go back to H1b after finishing my Phd since I would not have used up my 6years of H1b.

If your I-140 is filed/approved when you file for a change of status to F-1, the change of status may be denied as you have shown you have immigrant intent. You should discuss this with an attorney.
