Hi All,

I am currently pursuing my Masters (Fall 2014) intake on H4 visa. This week i have got a interview call for summer 2015 internship from a big firm for 1 on 1 interview
as part of that is it okay for me to attend the interview while on H4 ? please note i will apply for the F1 visa in a week or two since my current H4 is on extension will be confirmed in a week.

By the time i complete all the rounds of the interview i would have applied for the F1 visa COS (change of status)

1) will the company ask for my visa details during the interview process ?
2) if they get to know that my visa is in process when they ask for it, will they proceed further with my case and still give me an offer ?

Please advice if you have come across such situation earlier.

You can attend the interview on H-4 visa. There is no violation of status when you’re just talking to someone.
1. They are not supposed to ask about your immigration status per se at an interview. They may ask if you have work authorization.
2. Since this is for the next summer, what would your current status have to do with anything? After they offer the position, you can explain that you will be switching to F-1.
Have you spoken with the DSO at your school? You will need their permission to get CPT or OPT. You should make sure with them that you’ll be eligible for one or the other.

Firstly u cannot work on H4 since u are apply for f1 it is better to wait until u get your F1 done and if u wish to attend the interview u can but again u cannot work until u get your f1 status is up all the best

You have to maintain F1 status at least for 2full semesters to get work authorization. It will take at least 3months for to process your change of status from H4 to F1
